NOTE:
You will see that I will write a lot about your own choices and your own styles. My goal always will be for anyone to think for themselves and to think "outside of the box". I will put my own opinion into this, but would never expect anyone to do what I do. Do as you will, but harm NONE! and least of all, yourself.
Will the cards tell me anything I do not want to hear?
Do you need a book to learn how to read tarot cards?
Does a first tarot deck have to be given to you?
Why are you asking for a tarot or any type of reading, if there are things you do not want to hear? Our guides "know" us, however it is in the delivery where the message lies. In my time of readings I found that some guides are very gentle when they relay a message through the cards, and others are very firm or blunt. I go with the way it is relayed to me, I believe that our guides know us much better then we know ourselves at times. I cannot speak for other readers, but this is what you would have to expect from me and my readings. So yes, they will let you know what you may not necessary want to hear at that given time.

No, you DO NOT need a book, you can learn to "know" your cards by drawing a card everyday, and see what you feel about it or what you think the message is. You can do this every day, till you feel comfortable enough to "understand" what it is they are telling you. That is one way. There are many ways to learn how to understand your cards. Personally a book can become a "crutch" or a "security Blanket", you have trouble letting go of. We all are very unique, we all have our own ways of seeing things, so we all have different ways of reading cards. Do you have to follow certain guidelines? if you want to, why not. Do you feel you want to lay your deck in a different way? Why not! Do you feel connected the way you are doing it? Then do it! I have had to use a book on occasions, to get extra triggers while reading or if I could not understand something, I looked at the book and look to see if they had a "translation" of what I seen, which felt right. The authors who write the books and create or have someone create the deck for them or with them, they have their own ways of reading. Doesn't mean you have to read the same way. The decks I have (yes I have a few) are absolutely beautiful and works of art, the books are written with a lot of love and knowledge, and can be great guides, BUT guides they are, work on developing your own style, your own understanding.
No, it does not, you can choose one yourself. Usually one that "speaks" to you, or one which you like the artwork of, or whatever gives you a good feeling. We have the tendency to think that so called "rules" have been handed "down" to us in regards to this. Follow your heart, open your mind, IT IS YOUR CHOICE. Sometimes it helps asking someone close to you, just for them to remind you that you already chose.
